Why am I a huge Mariah Fan?
ThatÂ’s like asking me why I choose to breathe! Ha HaÂ… From the moment I heard her voice over the radio in my car when I was 18 years old, I was completely hooked and thus my car was reborn intoÂ… “The Mariah MobileÂ
First and foremost, I was an aspiring singer at the time her 1st album came out. I was so impressed with her raw vocal talent. I recall actually using her music to train my voice. I would sing anywhere and for anyone who would listen. I actually performed the song she co-wrote with Carol King, “If It’s Over in a talent search competition in my hometown and won. She was the vocal coach I never had and is the most talented vocalist I’ve ever heard.
Her music is extremely inspirational and necessary in my life. Her lyrics touch me at my very core. Many of the songs that I’ve connected with are tracks that are never commercially released. “Vanishing is basically my autobiography. I spent my entire life trying to save my mom from herself (drug use) and in 1990 she was diagnosed with HIV. This song provided comfort and solace and helped me to deal with that situation and knowing that Mariah was going through something very similar with a close relative, reinforced my connection with and love for that song. When my mom finally lost her battle with AIDS in 1995 (4 months before my wedding day at the tender age of 41), “One Sweet Day was the #1 song in the country and once again, in some somber way, helped me through the unimaginable pain of that loss. I walked down the aisle later that year to “When I Saw You and married the man of my dreams. Her music has always carried me through both the most joyous and trying times of my life.
Last and certainly not least, Mariah continues to inspire and amaze me as an artist and a human being. She gives so much of her time and money to charities and children. Her generosity over the years to the Fresh Air Fund, Camp Mariah, the Long Island railroad disaster, and 9/11 (just to name a few) is mind-blowing and awe-inspiring. Meeting her last year for the very 1st time at all the different events and being with her on New Years Eve was a lifetime goal realized and only underscored the admiration and respect I always felt towards her. She is devoted and loyal to her fans and always does her best to make time at events, meet and greets, signings, etc.,. Sharing the few moments that we did at the KTU Listening Party and at CiprianiÂ’s on New Years Eve were priceless. IÂ’ll always treasure those conversations and moments with her. IÂ’ve have been a loyal fan for 16 years, through thick and thin and always will be. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my story with the fans and with the head Lambstress herself, MC.

Much Love, Rachel D.
